About Caitlin

I have a Bachelor's degree in Education with a phase specialisation in senior and FET education. I majored in English, History and Psychology. Though I started my education at The University of the Witwatersrand, I transferred to UNISA at the end of my second year as I had been offered a job at one of the schools where I had gone to complete my teaching practical.

I was 20 years old when I started teaching in January 2012 and I have been working at the same school ever since. I care deeply about my learners and my subject and have an active interest in making the study of English a far less scary pursuit. I try to give my learners perspective using their own life experience and make an effort to understand the contextual factors which affect their ability to perform well in my subject.

About the lesson

I have been teaching English for 11 years and am entirely dedicated to my craft. I truly love teaching and find my joy in my classroom every day.

I feel that it is important to get to know my learners and establish what I can do to ensure that effective learning is taking place in the time which we have together. My focus is always on how to ensure that the learner sitting in front of me is actually understanding what I am teaching. There is no one-size-fits-all way to teach a language.

I am a professional, working educator and will be available after 15.00 in the afternoons. Unfortunately, I am only able to conduct lessons in English and, though I can certainly assist learners taking English as a First or Second Additional Language, English Home Language is my area of expertise.

I hope to use my experience as an educator and as a marker of the final matric NSC exam to help my learners understand what is expected of them in matric and assist them in preparing effectively for those examinations. This being said, I have experience teaching grades 7-12 and would be able to assist learners from any of those grades. I also run a study-skills workshop at the school where I work and would be able to share those skills with my online learners.
