About Alan

I’m a practising doctor [MD], with an additional bachelor's degree in biology. I am constantly engaged in teaching activities in my (teaching) hospital to medical school students and intern doctors. I have taught English to underprivileged children back in my country and I enjoyed it. I have not taught for remuneration before, I'm doing this to spread the love for the field.

As far as medicine is concerned, I believe that it is better for the students to go system wise and cover all the aspects of the system from its anatomy to pathology to its surgical intervention. This will also allow me to touch on aspects of pharmacology and surgery before we get into these subjects in detail and will make it immensely easier.

  • When did you develop an interest in your chosen field and in private tutoring?

My passion for medicine began during my teenage years, when I was fascinated by how the human body works and how science could be used to heal. This passion solidified when I pursued my MBBS and B.Sc. in Biology. I became interested in tutoring during my own studies — I found myself helping classmates prepare for exams, and I discovered that I truly enjoyed explaining complex ideas in simpler terms. It felt rewarding to make someone else’s learning journey smoother.
  • Tell us more about the subject you teach, the topics you like to discuss with students (and possibly those you like a little less).

I teach topics related to medicine, biology, and health sciences — including physiology, anatomy, pathology, and clinical case interpretation. I particularly enjoy discussing case-based learning, where students apply theory to real-life scenarios. It’s interactive and helps them think like future healthcare professionals. I find pure rote memorization less engaging, and I always try to replace it with active learning methods when possible.
  • Did you have any role models; a teacher that inspired you?

Yes. During my undergraduate years, I had a professor who taught clinical pharmacology. He had an incredible ability to break down difficult concepts using everyday analogies. More than the content, what inspired me was his patience, his humor, and his ability to adapt to each student’s pace. That made me want to be the kind of teacher who empowers confidence through clarity.
  • What do you think are the qualities required to be a good tutor?

A good tutor must be empathetic, adaptable, and clear in communication. Students come from diverse backgrounds, and a tutor must be able to meet them where they are — both academically and emotionally. Passion for the subject is important, but so is the ability to listen and adjust your teaching style. Patience and encouragement can go a long way in building a student’s confidence.
  • Provide a valuable anecdote related to your subject or your days at school.

During my medical internship, I once explained a patient’s disease process to a worried family using a whiteboard in the ward room. A nursing student nearby said, “I finally understood that for the first time.” That reminded me how powerful clear explanation is, not just for patients, but for fellow learners too. Teaching isn’t just about giving answers — it’s about building understanding.
  • What were the difficulties or challenges you faced or still face in your subject?

One challenge was the overwhelming amount of information in medical education. It’s easy to get lost in memorization without seeing the big picture. I overcame this by learning how to connect concepts — for example, linking biochemistry to clinical symptoms. Now, I help students do the same: simplify, structure, and learn to apply, not just recall.
  • Do you have a particular passion? Is it teaching in general or an element of the subject or something completely different?

Besides teaching, I have a strong passion for clinical reasoning and medical education. I love helping students learn how to think like doctors — not just memorize, but analyze and apply. Outside academics, I also enjoy creative writing and digital design, which helps me create engaging and visually clear study materials.
  • What makes you a Superprof (besides answering these interview questions 😄)?

What makes me a Superprof is my student-centered approach. I don’t just deliver lectures — I create conversations. I adapt to the student’s needs, learning styles, and pace. My goal is not just to teach for exams, but to ignite curiosity, build confidence, and encourage lifelong learning in the health sciences.
