About Shaun

I have previously tutored and mentored specifically children and young people from a wide variety of locations across the world over the years. My first experience of this was in 2009, when I volunteered in local primary and secondary schools in Mombasa, Kenya, teaching deprived children to read, write, also engaging with developmentally delayed children and physically impaired children in a school for the blind.
I then began my undergraduate study in 2011-2016, over which time I taught primary and secondary school children from both public and private schools a range of core classes, from subjects such as biology, modern studies, languages and psychology.
In 2012 I worked in a residential care setting, predominately engaging with adults with learning disabilities, mental health and substance misuse issues. I also worked extensively with children with learning disabilities and autism spectrum disorder (ASD). In 2013 I participated in an ERASMUS exchange programme to Germany, where I worked with young German Children in a classroom environment to teach them core lessons for their studies - this was particularly challenging as it was all done in German!
Since graduating top of my class with 5 A's in my final year, and having my dissertation published to the university library, I feel confident that I can now broaden my teaching and mentoring from just children and young people to undergraduates in either the fields of Social Work, Psychology, Mental Illness, Dissertation Writing.
I am currently undertaking the world wide accredited TEFL (Teaching English as a Foreign Language) course to qualify me as an English Teacher recognised world wide, in addition to having a command of French, German and Spanish.

In summary, my main skills and experience lie with tutoring children and young people in the fields I have studied, however since becoming fully qualified in areas specific to social work, social sciences, and psychology, I am confident in my teaching abilities at undergraduate level too.

My name is Shaun, I'm a 24 year old postgraduate MSc student at the University of Glasgow.
I graduated last year with a 1st Class Honours Degree in Social Work from the Robert Gordon University in Aberdeen, before moving to Glasgow to continue my education.
I love teaching people of all ages, particularly supporting children and young people to over come their isssues with associated specific learning disabilities, such as dyslexia, dyspraxia etc. As I also have dyslexia, and have experienced first hand the challenges that come with this through primary, secondary, undergraduate and masters degree education.

My teaching style is relaxed and informal, and I feel my age and personality make me a fairly relatable person for children and young people. I have experience in working in a social work background, and have engaged with people of all ages, all academic abilities, and from all walks of life.

I am most qualified to tutor in the fields of social work/social science and psychology, having gained my undergraduate degree and working towards postgraduate qualification, however if there is a particular field of study yourself or your child require support with, then I can prepare materials in advance to best meet their needs and adapt teaching accordingly.
