About Alyssa
Hi, I’m Alyssa! I am a graduate of the University of St Andrews in Scotland, where I completed an MLitt in Political Violence and Terrorism, and I also hold a BA in Political Science and an MBA. My academic background has allowed me to study politics, history, international relations, conflict, nationalism, and global affairs from a variety of perspectives.
At St Andrews, I developed extensive experience in academic research, writing, presentations, and graduate-level seminar discussions. My studies strengthened my ability to take complicated historical and political topics, analyze them critically, and communicate them clearly to others. I particularly enjoy helping students understand how historical events, geography, political systems, and international relations are interconnected.
I know that every student learns differently, so I strive to create a patient, encouraging, and judgment-free learning environment. Students should feel comfortable asking questions, saying when something does not make sense, and working through difficult material at their own pace. I am happy to adapt lessons to different learning styles and academic goals, whether that means preparing for an exam, improving an essay, reviewing class material, or simply developing a stronger understanding of a subject.
Above all, I genuinely love learning and education, and I hope to pass that enthusiasm on to my students. My goal is for students to leave our lessons not only feeling more confident in the material, but also more interested in the world around them.

My approach to tutoring is centered on making history, geography, politics, and international relations engaging, understandable, and relevant to each student. I believe students learn best when they understand not only what happened, but why it happened and how historical events, political decisions, geography, and international affairs connect.
I completed my MLitt in Political Violence and Terrorism at the University of St Andrews in Scotland, where my studies included international relations, political violence, nationalism, conflict, security, and comparative politics. I also hold a BA in Political Science. My academic background allows me to bring university-level knowledge into lessons while explaining complicated topics in a way that is approachable and easy to understand.
Every lesson is tailored to the student’s learning style, academic level, and goals. A typical lesson begins by identifying the topic and any areas the student finds challenging. From there, I break the material into manageable sections using discussion, timelines, maps, case studies, real-world examples, and historical and contemporary events. I encourage students to ask questions and think critically rather than simply memorize names, dates, and definitions.
What sets me apart as a tutor is my interdisciplinary approach. My education at St Andrews has given me the opportunity to study how history, politics, geography, conflict, culture, and international relations intersect. I love helping students make those connections and understand the bigger picture behind what they are studying.
My lessons are suitable for middle and high school students, college and university students, and adult learners. I can assist with general subject knowledge, homework, essays, exam preparation, research and writing skills, or more advanced topics in politics and international relations. Whether a student is struggling with a subject or already loves it and wants to learn more, I adapt my lessons to their individual needs and interests.
