About Barbara
My philosophy is to make the lesson experience a positive, supportive experience and one that increases a student's confidence. I have taught in colleges, universities, teaching schools, and my private studio for over 30 years. I love teaching more than anything, so you will pick up on that joy during your lessons! I aim to have students look forward to both practicing and taking their next lesson! It should be one of the most joyous parts of your life!

For our piano lessons, we incorporate Hanon for our basic technique (students love it!), but the music you work on will be music that you love and that sounds good on a piano. I have a Doctor of Musical Arts Degree in Piano Performance and Pedagogy so I have a heavy classical background, but I also love any other kind of music that transfers well to the piano. In a typical lesson, we warm-up with some Hanon, review last week's assignment, polish it up, and when you're ready, we choose some new good music together. I teach beginners through advanced, and all ages. You will love music even more once you are a musician yourself! It is a skill that you will never forget and you will never regret learning how to play an instrument!
