About Summer
Hi, I am a piano tutor with over 12 years of experience and a Master of Music in Piano Performance. I specialize in preparing advanced students for competitions, conservatory auditions, and important recitals. My own performance background gives me a clear understanding of what judges and audiences are really listening for.
I work closely with students on technical precision, deep musical interpretation, and secure memorization under pressure. Most of my students are already advanced players aiming for the next major milestone in their musical journey. We rehearse full programs repeatedly, simulating performance conditions so nothing feels unfamiliar on the actual day.
I once worked with a talented student who kept losing focus during memorized performances despite flawless practice sessions at home. We built a structured mental rehearsal routine, practicing under simulated pressure with mock audiences. She went on to place in a major regional competition shortly after.

My teaching approach is built for serious, advanced pianists preparing for competitions and major recitals. Precision matters enormously at this level, so we spend significant time refining technique down to small details. Every phrase is examined closely, since competition judges notice subtleties that casual listeners might miss.
We work heavily on interpretation, making sure technical mastery never overshadows musical expression. Memorization strategies are also a major focus, since performing without sheet music under pressure requires real mental preparation, not just muscle memory. I also coach students on stage presence and handling nerves during high stakes performances.
Some students already have strong technique but play a little too safely, so I push them to take bigger interpretive risks in their performances. Others have exciting musical instincts but need tighter technical control, so we spend extra time refining their precision. Both types of players need a slightly different kind of pressure to reach their best performance.
