About Dylan

I am a piano instructor with over 7 years of experience. I teach school students, college attendees, and working adults. I have taught about 300 students effectively. Many have passed graded exams with distinction, performed in concerts, and developed strong keyboard confidence. Some have progressed to band work or composition. My teaching is based on empathy, motivation, learning adaptation, and problem-solving. I believe every student learns differently and needs a personalized approach. I tailor lessons to each person's speed and goals. I focus on technique, reading, theory, and ear training. I also teach creativity, expression, and performance. I am patient and encouraging. I support students in playing music they enjoy and celebrate each milestone. I help them overcome challenges with effective methods. I am proud of my students' development and their connection to piano. My goal is to create a lasting love for music.

My teaching philosophy for piano is grounded in four values: empathy, motivation, learning adaptation, and problem-solving. I view the piano as a beautiful instrument that offers lasting satisfaction and creative expression. My purpose is to help students develop technique, understanding, and enjoyment of playing. Empathy is central. I know piano learning can be challenging. I stay patient and understanding, creating a comfortable atmosphere for questions and mistakes. I appreciate their effort and encourage them steadily. Motivation keeps students engaged and excited. I choose repertoire that appeals to them and set achievable short-term objectives. I celebrate each step forward, whether it is mastering a scale or playing a piece from start to finish. I show students their progress to maintain enthusiasm and connect practice to their personal interests. Learning adaptation helps every student benefit fully. Visual learners gain from diagrams and written materials. Auditory learners learn effectively through listening and copying. Kinesthetic learners need physical involvement. I identify each student's learning style and adapt my teaching accordingly. This makes learning faster and more enjoyable. Problem-solving skills help students overcome difficulties independently. When challenges arise, I guide them to identify issues and develop solutions. I teach them to break down problems, analyze weak points, and practice with purpose. This builds confidence and self-reliance. My curriculum covers a wide range of piano subjects. Technique is a key focus, including posture, hand position, finger independence, and articulation. I use scales, arpeggios, and studies to build control. Sight-reading is developed through regular practice with progressive materials. Music theory includes note reading, intervals, chords, keys, and harmony. Ear training strengthens listening through interval and chord recognition. Repertoire is selected to match each student's tastes, covering classical, jazz, pop, blues, and contemporary music. I teach phrasing, dynamics, and expression. Creative activities like improvisation and composition are encouraged. I teach chord patterns and scales for creating original music. Lead sheet reading is included for ensemble work. Each lesson is structured yet flexible. We begin with warm-ups and technical exercises, move to theory and reading, and spend time on repertoire. I end with a review and practice plan. I use recordings for self-evaluation and adjust goals regularly. My aim is to create capable, creative, and self-assured pianists.
