About Emma

I am Emma Lin, a professional piano and cello tutor with a strong academic and performance background. I graduated from the University of Waikato with a Bachelor of Social Sciences, majoring in Psychology and Music, and later completed a Bachelor of Music with Honours, specialising in piano performance. I am currently studying for a Master of Musical Arts at the New Zealand School of Music, Victoria University of Wellington. I have over four years of experience teaching piano and cello to students aged 5 to 50, both privately (online and in person) and through the Waikato Community School of Music, where I joined as a cello tutor in 2024. I have successfully prepared many students for ABRSM and Trinity examinations, consistently achieving strong results. In addition to teaching, I work as a collaborative pianist, providing accompaniment for instrumental examinations, concerts, and events. I am passionate about sharing music with students of all levels and helping them build confidence, technique, and musical understanding. I teach piano, cello, and music theory from beginner to advanced levels. I am fluent in English, Mandarin, and Taiwanese, and I am happy to teach in Chinese if preferred.

About the lesson

I teach both cello and piano at all levels, from beginners to advanced students. I prepare students for ABRSM and Trinity examinations, as well as music competitions, according to each student’s goals and interests. Many of my students have successfully participated in examinations and competitions with strong results. Lessons are available both online and in person for students in Hamilton, New Zealand. I also have experience teaching international students online via Zoom, including students based overseas. One of my online cello students from Canada recently achieved third place in a cello competition after our competition preparation work together, demonstrating that online learning can be just as effective and high-quality as in-person lessons.
