About Pearl
I am a 23-year-old Chinese-Laotian American and have been playing the piano since age 4. I teach students aged 3-18 piano theory and the application of piano theory with music. I have experience with performing piano, which I am also able to teach the mindset behind overcoming performance fatigue. I have confidence in teaching foundational piano theory to students who are starting their piano journey. My goal as a tutor is to advance my students from a beginner’s understanding to an intermediate level at an accelerated, yet organized, pace. I am available to teach online or to commute to private lessons. Feel free to reach out with questions. Free first lesson will give me a chance to analyze the level our student is at, and for parent to see if my teaching is to taste. Fun fact: I have multiple younger siblings and baby cousins. I really enjoy working with children!

A quarter to a half of the lesson will consist of me teaching my student piano theory on paper, depending on the learning pace of the student. The rest of the lesson will consist of applying theory to sheet music. I will not only make sure my student receives hands on practice, but also a full grasp on why understanding theory makes playing, advancing in, and loving piano so much easier. No worries about buying theory books or sheet music. I will be providing students materials; it’s all complementary. I teach from beginner level: notes, rhythms, clefs, fingerings, vocabulary, etc. to intermediate level: key signatures, chords, major/minor/harmonic/melodic scales, the circle of 5ths, dynamics, tone, pedal work, annotations, etc.
