About Emily
Playing piano provides peace and joy to my life through the beauty of producing music. I hope to inspire and introduce that love to beginning piano students. I have 15 years of piano experience, as well as past performance experience for compensation. However, teaching is my passion, especially for those just starting out on their music lesson journey. I am currently studying to finish my Master's in Education, and thus enjoy teaching children and youth. This has heavily influenced my teaching abilities to differentiate learning for each student, and help students learn in a fun, patient, and growth-oriented context.

Each individual has specific learning styles that help them succeed in playing the piano and understand the theory behind the sound of the notes. I strive to produce a thorough and engaging lesson that is tailored to the student and encourages them to adopt a growth mindset. A typical lesson consists of review of the previous week's material by having the student play the material and show what they learned. An emphasis on providing encouragement and reassurance as students learn from their mistakes made is vital, and incorporated in this and all stages. Students are given the opportunity to listen to the upcoming songs in their lesson book, and begin practicing them at lesson and during the week. Uniquely, students are given the option to skip some songs in their lesson books to have voice in what they play. Music theory will be integrated in accordance with the current songs being played.
