About Amanda

I am a dedicated and approachable tutor finishing my BSc Physics with Astrophysics degree, with a strong academic background in Maths, English, and Science. I understand the challenges students face at GCSE level and aim to make learning clear, structured, and manageable.

I pride myself on being patient, reliable, and professional. I take the time to understand each student’s strengths and areas for improvement, adapting my teaching style and analogies to suit your needs and accessibility requirements. My goal is not only to improve grades, but to build confidence and independent learning skills that last beyond exams. From A-Levels, internships, university and employability, problem solving is pivotal for all paths in life, and GCSE is where you begin to build this skill.

About the lesson

I offer friendly, supportive and effective tutoring for GCSE students in Maths, English and Science. Whether you’re aiming to pass, boost your grades, or push for top marks, I tailor each session to suit your learning style and goals. Each lesson is focused on understanding, not just memorising techniques, whilst building up optimism and fun in the face of daunting challenges. I understand the GCSE system and what examiners are looking for, and I aim to make lessons clear, engaging, and genuinely helpful.

We usually start by going through the syllabus of your respective exam board so that together we can identify what you’re finding difficult, whether that’s a specific topic or exam technique. From there, I explain concepts clearly and break them down step-by-step, making sure everything makes sense before moving on. I encourage questions throughout; from experience that is the best way I find to ingrain understanding for the long term.

Once you’re comfortable, we’ll practise together using exam-style questions to build confidence and apply what you’ve learned. I’ll guide you through how to approach different question types and share techniques to help you pick up marks more effectively in exams. Finally, nearing the end of a session, I will leave you with a couple of exam questions to do independently before self-marking against a mark scheme. In short, my approach to tutoring is the "I do, We do, You do" method.

Lessons are interactive and adapted to you: whether you prefer working through problems together, going over notes, or focusing on past papers. I also include revision tips and strategies to help you study more efficiently outside of sessions. On top of this, I have access to a tablet and a way to share my screen to ensure we go through at an adequate pace.

Above all, my goal is to help you feel more confident in your abilities and walk into your exams, prepared to do your best!

Details

I only provide online/remote tutoring either via Zoom or Microsoft Teams depending on your preference.

The first lesson is free and serves as a 30-minute introduction, diagnostic of strengths and weaknesses and working together to draft a timetable so that we both know what to expect out of each session and whether I am the right tutor for you.

From then onwards, each lesson is £25/hr, with flexibility on the frequency of each session and availability during the week. This pricing is a result of the resources that I provide as well as being a graduate student within this field.
