About Chris
I'm a recently qualified teacher of science, and have found teaching to be something I absolutely relish. I wasn't sure this would be the case a year ago as it's a mysterious profession from the outside, but being in there with bright mind and talking about the subject I am passionate about to students who may be on the fence for science and turning them into scientists themselves is a great thing to be part of.
Everybody likes to be useful, and so being able to support students in their goals and dreams while giving them an enjoyable teaching experience is something I cherish, not just as a teacher, but as a person.
Teaching in smaller groups, like tutoring, means I can get to that part of teaching where students can really be supported, and hopefully inspired as lessons are tailored to them are their needs, this is what I hope for in our sessions

As a teacher I prioritse what supported me the most when I was a student, what led me to excellent A-levels, being the physics & chemistry student of the year, and moving unto studying physics at university level, and what that is is: question asking. I believe students asking questions is the basis of learning as it allows direct feedback to what is in on your mind, rather than what might be on your mind, or, even worse, asking students to mind read what is in a teacher's head.
In my lessons I will build a rapport with you to find out where you are at, why you're taking lessons and where you want to go.
It will be your preferences in terms of activites and teaching style that will inform our lessons. Be that: lots of questions, lots of discussions, lots of quizzing or lots of game based activities
From here I will personalize the teaching to support your level and your interests, allowing you to lead sessions to your goals. At the heart of learning is knowing what it is you don't know, and to use this skill effectively means I will promote and encourage lots of question and dialogue to fill these holes.
I believe repetition is key to learning, and I believe in using this to achieve mastery of the early concepts, leading to comprehensive GCSE, Alevel and university smarts.
My high school students would describe me as a passionate teacher who listens to us, but has an awful haircut!
