About Fabian

My name is Fabian, I am 20 years old and currently in my second year of studies in Physics and Mathematics at the University of Göttingen in Germany. During this Summer I am living in Chilliwack BC Canada to play Football in the Canadian Junior Football League. Sport has always been a big part of my life because I like to compete, improve and set and reach goals. But similar to studying, getting good at sports takes time, energy, frustration, and a lot of discipline. That is especially what I realized when I had to start putting in a lot of effort in my final year of school. That was when I found my passion for Mathematics and Physics. I strongly believe that you can only find your true passion and calling when you’re ready to work hard and leave your comfort zone. For young people, this process can be very hard and cause frustration and anxiety. Things that can already exist in times of puberty. I feel that it is important to take all those factors into consideration when helping kids with school and I am certain that my personal experience and my drive and grit qualify me as a good Tutor.

About the lesson

I usually like to get to know my students before I start teaching. It helps me to understand who they are, what their goals are, and what may work or not work for them so I can adjust my teaching approach. I find this to be very helpful since Mathematics and Physics are subjects that cause frustration quite easily. And having fun — perhaps even discovering a new passion — when studying avoids a discouraging build-up of frustration. Then I try to evaluate my students' knowledge concerning the regarding topic. I not only try to fill the gaps in their knowledge but want to elevate their understanding to a new level where the students learn the ability to acquire knowledge for themselves. From personal experience, I know that this is the most sustainable trait for long-term academic success. Since mathematics can be very abstract from time to time, my main methodology as a tutor is to try to find real-life examples or applications as this helps to build a deeper understanding of mathematical interlinks.
