About Charlie
Hi, I'm Charlie. I'm a Philosophy student at the University of Edinburgh — one of the world's top-ranked departments for the subject — on track to graduate with a First-Class degree in May 2026.
Philosophy has been a passion of mine since sixth form, and I genuinely love the moment when a difficult idea finally clicks into place — whether that's in my own studies or in a tutoring session. I was recently awarded the James Grant Memorial Prize for the best essay in moral philosophy across Edinburgh's entire third-year cohort, which was a real highlight.
I've taught 75+ lessons with a perfect 5-star rating, and I'd genuinely love to help you get to grips with philosophy — whether you're just starting out or working at a high level.

My three core areas of expertise are:
Logic — from propositional and first-order logic through to modal logics, metalogic, and Gödel's incompleteness theorems. I can take a complete beginner to a place where they can choose their own path and direct their own learning.
Academic Writing — helping students construct clear arguments, plan essays effectively, and understand what high-mark answers actually do. I work with students across subjects, not just philosophy.
Philosophy of Language — covering Frege, Russell, Kripke, Wittgenstein, speech act theory, and more. My personal favourites here are Russell and the ontology of fiction.
Beyond these specialisms, I have studied and can support students across all major areas of philosophy: ethics, epistemology, metaphysics, philosophy of mind, political philosophy, history of philosophy, the philosophy of Kierkegaard and philosophy of technology.
How can I help you?
Presentation
When I started philosophy I found presenting my ideas to be the most challenging aspect of the subject. Since then I have worked hard to make sure this is a strong point. I would like to pass on this knowledge to you, in turn, helping you express your ideas with clarity, improve your essay writing and your marks.
Content
Sometimes philosophy can be overwhelming. Some of the ideas are completely alien to everyday thought. If you do find the content to be daunting, I can help. I have a wide range of knowledge of the different areas of philosophy, how they relate to each other and how they relate to everyday life. Therefore, I can turn intimidating concepts into approachable ones.
