About Oliver
I have a BA in philosophy and creative writing and a background in peer-to-peer youth education. I am also a classical guitar tutor and poet, with a keen eye for misplaced sentence fragments and flow. I have tutored eight students in classical guitar method and edited essays than throughout undergrad and post-grad. In all of my tutoring I aim to help the student elevate and polish their work, as well as hone in on a clearer vision of what they have to say. I also enjoy guiding students through readings that are demanding and written in academic language by identifying and unpacking the key ideas in said texts.

I am a very energetic tutor in both writing, philosophy and guitar method. In writing I collaborate with the student to clarify their own ideas, what they ideally want their essay/assignment to argue or convey, and demonstrate how sentence structure, fluency and syntax can be used to guide their point. In philosophy I have a strong grasp of the Continental school from Sartre to Cixous, as well as a background in Ancient Greek philosophy and the primary canon of academic philosophy (Descartes, Hume, and contemporaries). Guitar method is often a mixture of theory, scales, and tabulating sheet music, and I find duets are a great vehicle for improving both my own and the student's method. I can also teach basic chord structures and jazz method.
