About Ondřej
Central European living in Oxford since 2011, fluent in Czech, German, French, Latin, and Greek. In 2016 I graduated from the University of Oxford with a 1st class BA in Literae Humaniores; I have been studying for a BPhil in Philosophy since then, and I hope to proceed towards a doctorate soon. My primary research interest lies in Aristotle's philosophy of the natural world, but I am also fascinated by Kant and Wittgenstein's critical approaches to philosophical inquiry. Warning: I have idealist leanings.
I have taught, with considerable success, i) Philosophy & History of Philosophy individually to two university students, ii) Latin individually to two Art History students, iii) introductions to Plato and Hume, respectively, to two groups of secondary school pupils, iv) introductions to Classics and Philosophy to two twelve-year-olds.

I want the teaching to be fun for both the teacher and the person taught. This works best when the roles are somewhat less clear-cut in the first place: I try and push the other person to 'teach' me in turn, and thus develop their confidence and interest in the subject. This can happen naturally, but I also tend to employ a modicum of Socratic irony to provoke the other person towards expressing their own views. Hence I may appear rather ignorant at times: only the interlocutor can tell at any one point, however, whether my ignorance is real or pretended. Either way, it is a positive part of the plan. Nonetheless, I also had patience with a student who wanted simply a private lecture (but I charged them more, of course).
