  • Did you grow up speaking this language? Or were you inspired by a trip abroad, an individual or a certain aspect of the culture?

I grew up speaking Spanish, as it is my mother tongue. I have always loved teaching my language to people from all over the world. When I moved to Sydney, Australia, I met many people from different countries who were passionate about discovering Spanish, and I felt a strong desire to give my very best when teaching it, while also sharing everything connected to Latin American and Spanish culture.
  • Can you name a living, historical or fictional character that you think is the emblematic representative of the language's culture?

An emblematic representative of Spanish-speaking culture is the renowned tango singer Carlos Gardel. Through his music, he reached many countries, sharing Argentine culture through powerful life stories. Tango is an icon of my country, Argentina, and it is not only about singing, but also about dancing—connecting both voice and body. I truly recommend it to anyone who has never listened to or danced tango.
  • Is there a typical word, phrase, tradition or expression in the language that you particularly like?

There is a very simple yet powerful Spanish phrase: “todo bien” (“all good”), which is often used when greeting someone. I find it very warm and affectionate, and I think it says a lot about our Latin American culture, where we enjoy connecting with others, sharing good moments, and having meaningful conversations. That is exactly what I teach my students in class: how to connect and have deeper conversations in Spanish.
  • Why does speaking this language matter to you?

Speaking Spanish matters because it is the second most spoken language in the world. It allows you to meet people and make friends not only in Spain, but throughout all of Latin America. At the same time, if you travel to a Spanish-speaking country, you can connect in a more genuine way with locals and their culture. I also believe Hispanic and Latin American culture is incredibly rich—literature, music, cinema, and art in all its forms—and knowing Spanish opens the door to this whole new world. I am truly happy to share all of this with my students.
  • What is the main difficulty in learning this language and what can help the process of learning?

The main difficulty is overcoming the fear of making mistakes, feeling embarrassed, or not pronouncing things perfectly. There is no need to worry about any of that. In my classes, the approach is to learn through enthusiasm and joy, to have fun in every lesson, and to see mistakes not as failures but as opportunities to learn. The best thing you can do when learning Spanish is to enjoy the process—that is what I aim to achieve with my students.
  • Provide a valuable anecdote related to your language learning or your days at school.

When I was a child, I was very shy and found it difficult to speak in public. As I grew older and developed professionally, I gained confidence, and now I can even speak with a microphone in front of an audience of more than one hundred people. Sharing what I know is very important to me, and that is how I was able to overcome my fears and connect with hundreds of people throughout my years as a teacher.
  • How has travel or a specific trip helped you to increase your skill and knowledge of the language?

Moving to Sydney put me in contact with people from many different countries and cultures. Being bilingual—speaking both English and Spanish—has helped me greatly in my professional life and, above all, in making friends. Language should never be a barrier, but a bridge to new countries, new people, and new cultures. I invite everyone to join my Spanish classes and dare to embark on this adventure!
