About Ronja

I am a PhD-trained philosopher and Associate Fellow at the University of Essex. I have a background in continental philosophy and critical theory, and specialise in social and political philosophy, democratic theory, and political economy.

Alongside my research, I have spent the past four years teaching undergraduate students at the University of Essex, covering subjects from ethics, epistemology, and formal logic to sociology. I have also worked as a tutor supporting students with philosophical essays and academic writing.

More than simply a body of literature and ideas, I believe that philosophy can provide a distinctive way of relating to the world around us: helping us to better understand it, but also to question and challenge it. This is what I enjoy most about teaching philosophy: giving people the tools to analyse difficult texts and the world they find themselves in, ask the right questions, and develop their own positions, ideas, and arguments.

About the lesson

I offer tailored philosophy lessons for university students and adults. Whether you’re writing an academic essay, looking to deepen your understanding of philosophical ideas, or hoping to develop your critical thinking skills, I can help. My aim is to give you the tools to work through challenging questions, develop your own arguments, and become a more confident thinker and writer.

I have taught first-year undergraduate students for the past four years, so I’m experienced in explaining philosophical concepts clearly and making complex arguments accessible. We can work through difficult texts together, examine the structure of arguments, clarify key concepts, and develop your ability to engage critically with philosophical ideas. I can also help you strengthen your academic writing, from structuring an essay and developing an argument to expressing your ideas clearly and precisely.

My own research sits at the intersection of philosophy, politics, and economics (PPE), but I have also taught a range of other subjects, from ethics to formal logic. I can support you across these areas, whether you are looking to deepen your understanding of a particular subject or need help with an essay, text, or argument. As a native German speaker, I can also help with reading German philosophers in the original or with philosophical translation questions.

Lessons are typically 60 minutes, but I’m happy to adapt this depending on your needs. Lessons are available online or in Manchester.
