Hi, I'm Jason. I teach AP Statistics, university-level statistics and probability, and the math courses that feed into them.

Background

B.Sc. in Statistics, and a PhD in decision analytics and operations. Five peer-reviewed publications. I now work as a senior machine learning engineer at a large North American technology company, where statistical and ML modeling, experiment design, and regression are what I do every week rather than what I once studied.

Secondary level

Advanced Placement: AP Statistics, AP Precalculus, AP Calculus AB and BC.

Topics include but are not limited to: sampling and study design, observational studies vs. experiments, descriptive statistics, probability, random variables, binomial and geometric distributions, sampling distributions, the Central Limit Theorem, confidence intervals, hypothesis testing, z/t/chi-square procedures, two-sample inference, ANOVA, least-squares regression, residual analysis, functions and transformations, trigonometry, sequences and series, exponentials and logarithms, limits, derivatives, integration techniques, and series convergence.

Post-secondary

Introduction to Statistics I & II, Statistics for Social Sciences, Applied Statistics for Business, Probability Theory, Mathematical Statistics, Statistical Inference, Linear Regression, Applied Regression Analysis, Experimental Design, Multivariate Analysis, Calculus I & II, Linear Algebra I & II, Optimization and Operations Research, Stochastic Processes, Introduction to Machine Learning.

Software and research support

Python, R, c++ and SPSS. I help graduate students with thesis analysis and results interpretation — choosing the right test for the design, running it, and explaining what the output actually licenses you to claim. Data cleaning, visualization, and reproducible analysis included.

What lessons are like

One-on-one, online or in person in the GTA. Nothing is fixed in advance — before we start, tell me what you're working toward, what your deadline is, and where you think things went wrong, and we'll agree on a plan from there. Some students want a steady weekly session through the whole course; others come in for focused work before a specific exam or assignment. Both are fine.

Within a session, the structure is up to you as well. If you'd rather bring your own problems and questions each week, we work through those. If you'd prefer I set the agenda and assign practice between sessions, I'll do that. Pace, workload, and how much homework you get are all things we adjust as we go — tell me if it's too fast or too slow and I'll change it.

Available in English, Mandarin.

Whether you're catching up, aiming for a 5, or trying to get an analysis past your supervisor, I'll work with you to figure out what actually gets you there.
