About Alex
I'm Alexander, a PhD student in theoretical physics at the Kirensky Institute of Physics in Krasnoyarsk, Russia. My research is on strongly correlated electron systems, the physics behind high-temperature superconductors. Before that, I earned a bachelor's and a master's degree in physics from Reshetnev Siberian State University of Science and Technology.
I have been tutoring math and physics since 2022, in English and Russian. My students have come from Moscow State University, the Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology (MIPT), the Higher School of Economics (HSE), the University of Virginia, and universities in Germany and Spain.
What I like most about teaching is the moment when a topic that looked like a wall of formulas starts to make sense.
Outside of physics, I enjoy cooking, video games, and working out at the gym.

My lessons are for high school students in their final years and for university students. With school students I work on math and physics, including Studienkolleg preparation. At university level I teach calculus, differential equations, equations of mathematical physics, electrodynamics, and quantum mechanics. Students usually come to me before an exam or a retake, or to fill gaps that have built up over the semester.
A typical lesson starts with a short piece of theory, only what the topic really needs. Then we move to problems. I treat each problem as an investigation: you look for the approach yourself, and when you get stuck I give a small hint rather than the whole solution. This way you learn to choose a method on your own and to write a solution that someone else can follow.
Most students who prepared with me for a retake passed, usually with a good or excellent grade. A University of Virginia student raised her final grade in mathematical physics from F to B, and an MIPT (Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology) student passed his quantum mechanics course.
Lessons are online, in English or Russian, on a Miro board you can open at any time. When needed, I give homework and a list of topics to review.
Tell me your subject, course, the topic that's giving you trouble, and your exam date. I'll tell you whether I can help and suggest a plan.
