About Krista
I am an English PhD student at University of Illinois at Chicago who has a Bachelor's Degree in English from Brigham Young University and a Master's in English from the University of Illinois at Chicago. Because of my education, I have five years of experience teaching students how to write strong research papers as well as work through difficult reading assignments and want to use my skills to help high school and college students who need assistance with courses such as English as well as History since I have an extensive knowledge of American, European and World History. I strive to provide a friendly safe environment that is accommodating for people with special needs or difficulty speaking English as a first language. While I would prefer to conduct lessons over Zoom, I am willing to meet people in the Chicago area on a case by case basis.

I believe that the best way to teach both writing, literature and history is through active discussion and approaching texts or subjects from the perspective of what excites and inspires the student. I also believe that free-writing can be an effective way of encouraging a student to engage with the material and give them an entry point into an otherwise difficult assignment.
