About Colleen
I am a PhD candidate at the University of South Carolina pursuing a degree in English Language and Literature. My specialty is popular culture as literature. I have a master's degree from the College of Charleston and the Citadel in English literature, with a focus on Shakespeare and popular culture. I have presented research at multiple conferences, on subjects such as fanfiction, fairy tales, and romance novels. I am a published author, with an article on Star Wars published in April 2021 and several more essays in the publishing pipeline. I am currently writing a dissertation on how adaptations of Arthurian literature reflect social views on women with power across various time periods. Academia has been my life for the past decade, and it is the place where I am most comfortable and happy. I love teaching, and I love the opportunity to help students learn and grow.

So my technique is to relate the tutoring sessions to your life and your interests. Got an essay on creating an argument? Let's find a situation in your life where arguing skills could be useful! Need to analyze a piece of literature? Let's develop those skills by looking at movies! Making things relevant to your life and your interests is my plan. You won't learn anything if you're bored.
I'm a solid tutor because I've been teaching college students for five years now, and my special topics classes (Star Wars literary analysis, mythology research and writing, fanfiction composition and rhetoric) have allowed me to develop skills and lesson plans to help students learn at their levels and in their own ways.
I'm best able to help college students and high school students preparing for college level writing.
