About Tatiana

Hi, I'm Tatiana! I'm a PhD researcher in Chemical Engineering at the University of Birmingham and an MSci Biomedical Science graduate from the University of Manchester, with over 5 years of tutoring experience and more than 1,800 lessons delivered.

Teaching has been a huge part of my academic journey, and I've had the opportunity to work with students from a wide range of backgrounds and abilities. Alongside private tutoring, I have also worked as an Academic Mentor within a secondary school and sixth form, supporting students both one-to-one and in groups.

What I love most about tutoring is watching a student's confidence change. Some of my most rewarding experiences have been with students who initially believed they were simply "bad" at a subject, but with the right explanation, encouragement and approach, began achieving grades they didn't think were possible.

My own academic journey has taken me from Biomedical Science into scientific research and now a PhD, so science isn't something I only teach, it's something I use every day. I enjoy bringing that enthusiasm into my lessons and helping students understand the reasoning behind what they're learning rather than simply memorising information for an exam.

I'm friendly, patient and approachable, but I'm also very committed to helping my students progress. Whether you're trying to move up several grades, aiming for an 8/9 or A/A*, preparing for an upcoming exam, or simply want someone to make a difficult subject finally make sense, I'd love to help you get there!

About the lesson

My lessons are completely tailored to each student. I don't believe in a one-size-fits-all approach, I first identify your strengths, knowledge gaps and areas where you're losing marks, then structure our lessons around exactly what you need to improve.

I teach GCSE Combined Science, GCSE Triple Science, A-Level Biology and Chemistry, as well as GCSE and A-Level Psychology and Business Studies across AQA, Edexcel, OCR and WJEC.

With over 5 years of tutoring experience and 1,000+ lessons delivered, I've worked with students across a wide range of abilities – from those struggling to pass to high-achieving students aiming for grades 8/9 and A/A*. My focus is not just on knowing the content, but understanding exactly what the exam question is asking and how to turn that knowledge into marks.

Lessons are typically 60 minutes and combine clear explanations, active recall, exam-board-specific questions, past-paper practice and exam technique. I also adapt my teaching style to the individual student, whether they learn best visually, through discussion, worked examples or repeated practice.

As an MSci Biomedical Science graduate and current PhD researcher in Chemical Engineering, I also bring a strong scientific background to my teaching. I love being able to explain difficult concepts in a way that feels simple and approachable, while showing students how the science they're learning connects to the real world.

Most importantly, I want my students to feel comfortable asking questions. There is never a "silly" question in my lessons. My aim is to create a supportive environment where students can build their knowledge, confidence and exam skills at their own pace.
