About David
Hi, I’m David, a friendly and highly experienced science tutor supporting students from GCSE and A-Level through to undergraduate, postgraduate, and PhD level. I completed my PhD in Chemistry in November 2025, passing my viva with no corrections and graduating summa cum laude.
Also, since 2021, I have worked as an interviewer and personal statement assessor for Imperial College London, giving me detailed insight into what top universities look for in applications. I am happy to support any student from GCSE to postgraduate level.
My PhD and Master’s research were conducted across three of the UK’s most prestigious institutions: the University of Oxford, Imperial College London, and the Francis Crick Institute. My work bridged molecular biology and synthetic chemistry, giving me a strong foundation in both theory and hands-on application.
My academic journey began with a Natural Sciences degree at the University of Bath, where I studied chemistry, biology, pharmacology, neuroscience, and biochemistry. I was awarded a full academic scholarship and completed a highly competitive placement year at GlaxoSmithKline in their immuno-oncology division. I received undergraduate offers from Cambridge and multiple Russell Group universities, as well as postgraduate offers across London. During my journey, I also received job offers from Deloitte and MI6, but chose to continue my education because I am passionate about science and mentoring.
I now work in the biotech and pharmaceutical sectors in competitive intelligence, which has given me a strong understanding of how academic skills translate into real-world careers.
Outside academia, I have played semi-professional cricket, earned scholarships for both science and sport, and continue to compete in endurance events such as HYROX and running. I understand the challenge of balancing academic excellence with wider commitments and enjoy helping students manage both effectively.

Alongside my academic training, I have over 1,000 hours of experience delivering undergraduate teaching workshops, supervising laboratory work, and marking undergraduate biology and chemistry students aged 18 to 22 at Imperial College London. This has shaped an adaptable and engaging teaching style that works equally well for students aiming for top grades and those seeking clarity, confidence, and strong foundations in core concepts.
Since 2021, I have also worked as an interviewer and personal statement assessor for Imperial College London, giving me detailed insight into the application process for Imperial and Oxbridge. I have interviewed undergraduate applicants for Imperial College London and the University of Bath, Master’s applicants at the University of Oxford, and PhD candidates at Imperial College London, the Francis Crick Institute, and the Technical University of Dresden. This experience allows me to offer practical, targeted support for competitive applications in the UK and abroad.
Alongside tutoring, I regularly support sixth-form students with A-level subject selection, personal statements, and interview preparation. Many of the students I have mentored have gone on to secure places at leading universities, including Imperial College London and Oxbridge. I have also worked closely with students from underrepresented backgrounds, supervised lab projects, and written academic references to support competitive applications.
Whether you or your child are aiming for top exam results, preparing for university applications, or looking to build confidence in biology or chemistry, I offer structured, supportive, and personalised tutoring tailored to individual goals. I would be delighted to help unlock potential and guide the next steps in your academic journey.
