About Kurtis

I’ve been teaching for a long time, and I’ve found that the best way to learn a subject is to have someone explain it in a way that actually makes sense for you. My approach is built on years of experience across a wide range of settings:

I started out tutoring in my college’s math department and volunteering for ACT prep, which really taught me how to adjust to different learning styles. During grad school, I was a TA for physics and calculus—where I spent a lot of time lecturing and working through problems with students—and I eventually served as an adjunct professor for Calculus III. I also spent time as a Center Director for Mathnasium, which gave me a lot of practice in designing curriculum and working with students of all ages.

I’ve been in the classroom as both a student and an instructor, and that perspective is a huge part of how I tutor. I know how it feels to be frustrated by a tough concept, and I know how to break that down so it’s manageable. Whether you're working through a specific homework assignment or trying to wrap your head around a difficult theory, I’m happy to help you work through it.

Need help with Math, Physics, or Life Sciences?

I believe everyone learns differently, so I don't believe in one-size-fits-all teaching. I focus on meeting you where you are- we’ll talk through the material, figure out exactly where you’re getting stuck, and adjust my approach until things finally click. My sessions are centered on breaking down intimidating topics into simpler pieces so you can actually understand the "why" instead of just memorizing steps.

I typically start by reviewing the specific topic or homework you're struggling with. I’ll give a brief, clear explanation to clear up the theory, and then we’ll jump straight into example problems. I’ll watch how you approach them so we can spot your specific hang-ups and fix them on the spot.

I’m currently a first-year medical student, but I spent several years working as an engineer after finishing my PhD. That means I’ve been through the ringer of both high-level engineering research and the intense, fast-paced world of med school. I’m incredibly patient, and I know exactly how to manage complex material without getting overwhelmed.

I’m a great fit if you're an undergrad taking engineering or physics, a pre-med student prepping for the MCAT, or a high schooler looking to master AP Calculus or Physics.
