About LyaNisha
I have been teaching on the collegiate level since 2011 and recently received my PhD in Fine Arts in December of 2023 from Texas Tech University. While my background is in theater, that is a discipline that is connected to so many other fields--English, Math, Sociology, Science, History, and many, many more. As an actor and a playwright, my reading, analytical, and speaking skills are extremely keen--they must be in order for me to be successful in what I do (the art that I make) and how I teach my students. I utilize critical thinking in my work and urge my students to push themselves in that area as well. I won't merely provide you the answers, but provide pathways for you to make those discoveries yourselves. I really enjoy teaching and connecting with my students and helping them learn and grow and develop their own self-confidence in areas where they never thought they would.

My time with you is very individualized. As a college professor with 10+ years of experience, my methodology is mostly in discussion format, utilizing the Socratic method. I listen to you, ask you questions, and engage in a lively discussion and debate with you to help you develop your critical thinking skills. Reading texts is not just about what's on the written page, but your ability to analyze and comprehend what it is that you read. I achieve that by talking to you about its meaning. Then I have you write your thoughts down to see if you can better articulate and understand them. We will proofread your work and discuss the importance of doing so. I will also assist you in understanding how to properly cite your work depending on specific style guides for your discipline. This will be a conversation between us where mistakes and confusions are allowed and corrections are made without stress.
