About Piyumal Anthony
I am currently a PhD student specialising in machine learning and computational science, with a strong background in mathematics, statistics, and programming. I have several years of experience tutoring university courses, including structured programming and quantitative subjects, as well as supporting students one-on-one with assignments, exam preparation, and core concept revision.
I regularly work with tools and languages such as Python, R, and Java, and I use this experience to give students practical, clear explanations rather than purely theoretical ones. My teaching covers everything from HSC-level maths and introductory statistics through to advanced undergraduate topics such as probability, linear algebra, statistical modelling, and programming fundamentals.
Because I am actively involved in research, I’m very familiar with how maths, statistics, and programming are used in real-world scientific and data-driven problems, and I bring that perspective into my lessons to help students see why what they’re learning matters.

Hi, I’m Anthony. I offer lessons in mathematics, statistics, and programming for HSC students and undergraduate students.
My teaching approach
I focus on building strong foundations and then moving to exam-style and problem-solving questions. In lessons, I:
Break down complex ideas into simple, step-by-step explanations
Use real examples and past paper questions
Encourage students to “think out loud” so I can see where they get stuck
Regularly review key concepts to make sure they are fully understood, not just memorised
Lesson structure & length
A typical lesson runs for 60–90 minutes. I usually:
Start with a quick check of previous material
Explain new concepts with examples
Work through practice questions together
Finish with short revision or homework suggestions
Qualifications & experience
I am currently a PhD student in machine learning / computational science and have experience tutoring university courses and helping students with maths, statistics, and programming. I am very comfortable with topics from HSC level up to advanced undergraduate material.
