About Bailey
As a postdoctoral research fellow in genetics, with a first-class undergraduate degree and a first-class Master's in Biology from Aberdeen University, I bring a robust academic and research foundation to my work. My recently completed PhD at Durham University delved into the fascinating mechanical properties of DNA, exploring how these characteristics have evolved and their potential as an additional layer of information within the genome. This intensive research experience has honed my skills in project management, critical thinking, and complex problem-solving.
Throughout my academic journey, I have actively sought opportunities to share my passion for biology and genetics. My experience includes a range of teaching, student project supervision, and leading biomolecular workshops. These roles have solidified my conviction that teaching extends far beyond the simple transfer of information. I believe the cornerstone of effective education is igniting a genuine interest and a desire for deeper learning within students.
My teaching philosophy is centered on making learning an engaging and enjoyable process. I am convinced that when students are passionate about a subject, the act of learning becomes an invigorating pursuit rather than a chore. To foster this passion, I focus on connecting complex scientific topics to familiar, real-world concepts. By creating these bridges between new and established ideas, I help students to not only process and retain information but also to appreciate its relevance and application. My goal is to cultivate an environment where curiosity thrives and learning feels like a natural and exciting endeavor. I am eager to continue applying this student-centered approach, encouraging the next generation of scientists to explore the wonders of genetics with enthusiasm and confidence.

In my lessons, I provide my students with a personally tailored tutoring experience where they can extend their knowledge base. I like to approach lessons in a flexible manner crucially working on the students' weaknesses but also focusing on their strengths. I believe this is a good way to gain confidence and passion for a subject - passion breeds interest and interest breeds learning! We will proceed by working through topics systematically, moving to a topic which is linked to the previous - this is how we create those strong neural pathways by linking and connecting topics. During the lessons, I will assess how you are progressing through quizzes and written essays/questions. I am also able to go through essays and provide feedback and places for improvement. I can also help construct essay plans or help students write A grade essays and written questions.
Recommendations
Recommendations come from relatives, friends and acquaintances of the teacher
In studying for a PhD in genetics, Bailey has to describe complex ideas in an accessible and succinct way with the undergraduate students he interacts with. He has transferred this skill to impart secondary school level biological theory in both a patient and approachable way, not an easy art for many teachers to achieve.
Bailey is a great teacher and manages to explain complex topics in a simple and understandable manner. I would really recommend him as a teacher for O and A level studies. He would also be a good person to help with BSc and MSc biology.
