About Richard
I have been teaching as an adjunct and visiting lecturer at small private colleges and a research-oriented state university for nearly twenty years. Teaching in this capacity means I am student-focused, and that I’ve learned to quickly adapt to new subject matter. Before this stint in teaching, I spent fifteen years in the software sector. Thus my teaching is always grounded in that experience of the world of work. While I bring enthusiasm to all I do, I also exude calm. People are my passion.

My university classes involve small group discussions and activities, so my one-on-one interactions with students are based on dialog. I try to determine student need for understanding. I especially enjoy coaching student writing. Above all, I try to meet students where they are, and help them move where they want to be.
