About Sergie Sage
Hi! I'm Sage.
I have a PhD in Chemistry and over 10 years of experience in drug discovery and medicinal chemistry, both in academia and industry. I currently work as a researcher in drug discovery, where breaking down complex problems and understanding how things work are my bread and butter. I want to teach Chemistry and Maths because I enjoy making difficult concepts easier to understand and helping students work things out for themselves.
During my doctoral training, I've taught undergraduate students organic synthesis and fundamental chemistry. And I especially love showing how the Chemistry you learn in class connects to real life, from understanding how molecules react to exploring how scientists design new medicines.
I'm neurodivergent, so I understand that everyone approaches learning differently. So, I adapt my explanations to each student's needs and aim to create a relaxed environment where you can ask questions without feeling judged. As a member of the LGBTQ+ community, I also value inclusivity and want everyone to feel comfortable being themselves.

My approach to teaching Chemistry and Maths is based on building understanding, confidence and independent problem-solving skills. I'll provide you with the skills to work through complex problems, identifying patterns and breaking down difficult concepts into manageable steps. In the end, you will understand not just how something works, but why, rather than simply memorising formulae or procedures.
- What to expect from a lesson:
I structure each lesson around your individual needs, existing knowledge and goals. We begin by identifying what you already understand and the areas you find challenging. I'll then explain the underlying concepts clearly, work through examples with you and gradually move towards solving problems independently. We'll use practice questions to consolidate your understanding, identify any remaining gaps and address difficulties as they arise.

My goal is for you to leave each lesson with a clearer grasp of the subject, practical strategies for tackling unfamiliar problems and greater confidence in your ability to work things out independently.
