About Geri

After teaching around the world for the past twenty-one years, I have returned to Nebraska to be close to my family. A tutoring position would be a great way to continue to be connected with students and my lifelong profession. The main driver of my teaching and tutoring philosophy is guided by the principle that students should be given every opportunity to succeed. When I tutor students individually, I have the opportunity to match student needs with a personalized teaching style. For the past 11 years, I taught for the University of Maryland Global Campus. I often taught in a bridge program that prepared students for their Freshman Writing courses. They were of varying abilities because there are no acceptance requirements for the university as its focus is on the military demographic. I think that was excellent preparation for tutoring. My teaching experience has been very diverse and so there are few, if any, situations, experiences, or students I have not seen or taught. I am confident I can meet the standards you expect of tutors and mentors and keep my students engaged. I look forward to the possibility of helping future students.

About the lesson

Because this description covers a wide range of subjects. I will briefly talk about possible lessons for each one.
Literature---The lesson will be preceded by a close reading of the text, using a study guide I prepare so that students' reading is focused on the most important points. We will discuss the points I've identified as well as a writing assignment of several choices.
Thesis---The thesis is the driver of a well-organized, strong essay. Each arguable point of a thesis focuses research that supports each claim in the thesis.
Essay--A good essay is guided by a strong thesis and an outline that indicates what the topic and claim of each paragraph will be. Organized paragraphs that are a mix of the writer's thoughts and research supporting the thesis.
