About Alex

I’m currently a Santa Rosa Junior College Music Major, and I’ve been playing music ever since I can remember! I’m a multi-instrumentalist and started my music journey by taking piano lessons in kindergarten, but around 3 years ago I picked up the guitar and haven’t stopped playing since! I’m a disciplined, passionate, and dedicated musician, I’m beyond eager to share my knowledge and experience with fellow aspiring musicians! I’m laidback and reliable, lessons are not meant to be taught strenuously, and my number 1 goal is to make sure that learning guitar is a fun and rewarding experience. Music sticks with you for a lifetime!

About the lesson

My lessons are primarily geared toward beginners, though intermediate players are absolutely welcome. Every lesson is personalized to the individual student, with the goal of making learning clear, engaging, and enjoyable rather than overwhelming or confusing. I play in multiple bands and across a wide range of styles, including jazz, rock, blues, and metal. Because of this, lessons are always shaped around the kind of music you’re interested in playing. A blues-focused lesson won’t look the same as a rock or metal lesson—but we don’t have to lock into a specific style right away. Instead, we’ll focus on building strong fundamentals, efficient and relaxed technique, and a real understanding of how the guitar works, so you can apply what you learn to any style of music. My teaching approach combines physical comfort on the instrument, clear musical understanding, and real-world application. Rather than memorizing shapes or patterns with no context, you’ll learn why things sound the way they do and how to use that understanding musically. Music theory is introduced as a way to explain what you’re hearing, not as something to memorize for its own sake. Lessons can also include active listening skills, improvisation, songwriting concepts, and an introduction to guitar gear and electronics such as pedals, amps, DAWs, and pickups. My goal is to help you play comfortably, understand what you’re hearing, and build real musical confidence from the very beginning. Let’s figure out your guitar journey together!
