Hi! I'm a sixth-year psychology student at the University of Otago with a first-class honours degree currently pursuing a Master's degree focusing on political and social psychology. My tutorials are mainly for students who either need a little extra help or want a deeper understanding of lecture/lab content.
The lessons will primarily focus on specific content the students wants to cover. Otherwise, they will follow the lecture content. The lesson structure will roughly go as follows:
1) General questions from the previous tutorial/lectures that week.
2) Outline the lesson objectives.
3) Cover tutorial content.
4) Recap and questions from the tutorial.
The first tutorial will be fairly unstructure. It is typically an opportunity to assess the level of the student, understand what they want from future tutorials, and provide any initial assistance with lecture/lab content.
Tutorials will be an informal environment for students to comfortably engage with lecture/lab content and ask questions. I see students who often listen to information only to forget it after a lecture/other tutorials. As such, I regularly ensure my students understand what I am saying by encouraging them to stop me when they don't as well as rephrase key concepts in their terms. This ensures they properly absorb the content.
I have a BASc and a first-class Bsc (Hons) with an A average. I have also tutored students at 100- and 200- level for one year and am a 2021 lab demonstrator for PSYC 111/112.
