All of the work done in each coaching session is totally confidential and non-judgemental, with an interest in optimizing performance, not simply ridding clients of their ailments. All individuals are welcome in coachings, regardless of their age, gender, orientation, race, or economic or cultural background. I make a commitment to listen to individuals as patiently and unassuming as possible, in order to help understand them as well as possible.
In each coaching session, done via Skype/Google Hangouts, or in person with the individual's instrument, clients gradually become aware of their physiological, cognitive, and behavioural responses to performing, helping them create a clear picture of the way their music performance anxiety manifests uniquely in their life. We also discuss contributing factors which may have led to their anxiety, especially in relation to their past instructors and personal attitudes to performing.
After this has been done, we build individualized strategies for performing with increased confidence, awareness, and fluidity, both in and out of the practice room. We develop clear strategies to increase focus and flow during performance, to optimize players to reach their performance abilities as they envisioned them in the practice room, and to deal with themselves and others more accurately and practically in the context of their wider personal and professional life.
I am a classical guitarist in the final years of my Doctor of Musical Arts (DMA) degree in classical guitar performance, where I have been researching Acceptance and Commitment Therapy and its role in helping musicians with Music Performance Anxiety. I have read literally hundreds of articles on this topic, and have written a great deal about it in my academic life.
As a performer, I have given concerts in Japan, Italy, Austria, the U.S., and all over Canada on the classical guitar, and have premiered new works by performers from all over the world. I have received top prizes in national and international competitions, placing as a finalist in the Hamilton and Montreal International Guitar Competitions, and winning first prize in the Ontario Music Festivals Association Provincial Guitar Competition in both 2014 and 2016. I also received the second place prizes in the FCMF National Guitar Competition and the Canadian Music Competition.
As a teacher with eleven years of experience working with students of all ages, based in downtown Toronto, my students in classical guitar have received admission to the Bachelor of Music Performance program at the University of Toronto, having won prizes in competitions such as the Kiwanis Music Festival. I currently have four years of experience working as a private coach for university students in the undergraduate guitar performance programs of the University of Ottawa and University of Toronto, and have given masterclasses in festivals like the Guitar Alla Grande Festival, Ottawa. I hold B. Mus and M. Mus degrees from the University of Ottawa.
As I continue my research, I am looking to work with individuals on a practical basis to help them become the best performers they can be and learn to perform with more confidence and joy, whether they practice music as a hobby or as a professional career.

I have known Daniel for a number of years as a guitar ensemble coach during my undergrad, and now as a colleague. His vast knowledge of music pedagogy, passion for learning, and positive personality make him a teacher I could not recommend more !
Daniel taught me for the 3rd year of my undergrad in guitar, this was years ago but there are a couple of the lessons I can remember like they were yesterday. He covered a lot in that time, my favorite was his explanations on gradients of perfection. As well he explains polyrhythms with more depth than I've ever seen anyone do before and made it possible for me not only to understand but play proficiently. Time spent studying with him will show you results and I would highly recommend Daniel as a teacher.
Daniel is an energetic teacher that taught me and my duo partner the past year. I would say he definitely helped us reach an entire new level of playing. Daniel is a very experienced guitarist and knows how to explain things easily. I would definitely recommend Daniel to any other guitarists.
Daniel has been a guitar teacher to our daughter for the past two years. He is a very thoughtful teacher who knows how to make a class more engaging for 12 years old girl. His passion for classical music and patience for teaching is fantastic. We highly recommend Daniel for beginner and advanced classical guitar students.
I remember the first time I went for a lesson with Daniel and to be honest, I wasn't expecting a lot. But afterwards, legit it was honestly the best lesson I had in my life so far. He really knows what hes doing, and hes very encouraging but at the same time honest with how you should improve your playing. I got exponentially better at guitar since I worked with him, and hes definitely the reason why I got into UofT for Performance in classical guitar. I highly recommend Daniel if your interested in learning Classical guitar.
