About Mete
I am a self-taught chess player, and I have played every day for three years. What first drew me in was a deep interest in learning itself, and chess turned out to be one of the best subjects I have ever studied. My rating is around 1,100, and I am still improving, which means I remember exactly what it feels like to be confused by a position and then finally understand it.
That is what I enjoy most about teaching: the moment something clicks. I tutor young people one to one and have coached students in chess alongside that work, so I am used to adapting my pace and explanations to the person in front of me.
I hold a current enhanced DBS certificate. I am patient, encouraging and honest about progress, and I would be glad to help you or your child enjoy the game more.

Chess lessons should feel clear, encouraging and worth your time. Every student follows a structured plan, so each lesson builds on the last and progress is easy to see.
Lessons run for 60 minutes online, one to one. We start with a short game so I can see where you are. Each lesson then focuses on one idea, such as a rule, a tactic, an opening principle or an endgame. You practise it straight away with puzzles and a game, then we review your own games together to find the turning points and set one target for next time.
The path runs from the basics, through tactics and strategy, to endgames and building a routine that keeps you improving between lessons.
I have played daily for three years and I am rated around 1,100. I also tutor young people one to one and have coached students in chess on openings, tactics and pattern recognition. I hold a current enhanced DBS certificate.
Suitable for children (5 and over), teens and adults, from complete beginners up to around 1,000-1,200. Book a free 20-minute intro to see if we are a good fit.
