About Joellen
Having taught for 13 years, I possess a deep understanding of the diverse challenges piano students encounter across their musical journey. It is a simple fact that building a strong foundation requires consistency, patience, and a clear method for tackling complex repertoire.
With a Master of Music in Vocal Studies from the Royal Academy of Music, I apply precise pedagogical principles to classical repertoire and pedalling technique. My 39 students range from complete novices to those preparing for advanced exams.
I focus on dynamics, expression, memorisation, ear training, and music theory. We also work on rhythm, timing, chord voicing, and sight transposition to ensure a well-rounded skill set. Does this comprehensive approach sound like the right fit for your musical goals?

Personalisation happens when we align your goals with specific technical practice. Music is communication. I leverage my 13 years of teaching to break down complex pieces into manageable sections for every student. My Master of Music degree from the Royal Academy of Music informs how I demonstrate phrasing and touch.
I provide a short recorded playback of each session so students can review at home. This allows you to listen back to our work throughout the week. This 6.0 minute review strategy ensures that concepts remain fresh in your mind. I enjoy seeing the progress you make between our meetings.
