About Charles
I am a third year King's College London medical student, currently conducting research in the Maurice Wohl Clinical Neuroscience Institute. Having studied a broad range, I secured 4 high grade A-levels (Maths, Physics, Chemistry and History). To arrive at the promising position I am in now, I accrued an abundance of knowledge not only in facts in the curriculum for exams, but more importantly the ability to think independently and critically on the work at hand.
This required diligence. The only way to diligence is patience, the ability to continue working and learning from mistakes. I understand that certain subjects can be more challenging and have applied the same patience to my primary school mentees, when a baffling concept is being put on the whiteboard. Patience is required to take the time out to understand where the difficulty lies and tailor the explanation to the child specifically, not by a barrage of facts but through analogies and breaking down the concept to the bare bones.
Through patience and diligence comes understanding and confidence. School and university are crucial periods when the student decides who he or she is going to be. Now is the time to focus on getting equipped with the tools for a successful career. Through these tools to understand what is being taught (and not simple factual regurgitation which regrettably is what occasionally occurs with some teachers), the student gains confidence in his or her ability, which can be applied to all other subjects and activities. Understanding and confidence lead to enthusiasm, a desire to continue learning the subject and pick up new ones in the process. Everyone enjoys the ability to exercise their skills and what they are good at, even if they had to work hard to get to that point. That enthusiasm combined with all the other aforementioned abilities will gain traction and lead to successful and secured exam results. Amazing how from tutoring, a student can have the desire to do the work!
I have first-hand experience of guiding students through skills such as maths, first aid or tennis, which astonishingly all require the same characteristics during the learning process: patience, diligence, confidence, understanding and enthusiasm. All of these were a process for long-term success, but immediate results will be seen in homework.
Now I have to have some substance to back up all the above observations. As I have mentioned already, I have participated in a range of activities to aid my insight on the most helpful pointers to succeed, which include 2 years First Aid in St. John Ambulance (classes ranging from 10-20 students aged 11-18); helping primary school children with Shine Mentoring; both private and group tennis lessons (ages 6-18) and many more. All of these furnished by my medical degree where we are taught the fundamentals of teaching health to the public in a friendly and understandable manner. That is the most important test given people's lives are in the balance.
I hope I have conveyed the kind of tutor I would be, not only just for immediate homework improvement but also more importantly for long-term secured success.
Please do not hesitate to contact me about dates and times. I will respond within two days as to availabilities.
