Enjoying stories. * Mathematics: * Progression: Developing a deep understanding of numbers to 10 (composition), subitising (recognising quantities without counting) up to 5, counting reliably to 20 and beyond, recognising patterns in numbers, simple addition and subtraction with concrete objects, and beginning to identify 2D and 3D shapes. * Understanding the World: * Progression: Exploring people and communities, the natural world, and technology. Asking questions about their environment, talking about past and present events in their own lives, and recognising and naming familiar technology. * Expressive Arts and Design: * Progression: Exploring and using a variety of materials and tools, engaging in imaginative and creative play (role-play, storytelling), and experimenting with music, dance, and art forms. Year 1 (Key Stage 1) Year 1 builds upon the EYFS, introducing more formal learning structures and specific curriculum objectives. * English: * Progression: * Reading: Mastering phonics (Set 2 & 3 sounds), blending sounds to read unfamiliar words, reading common exception words, understanding simple texts (retelling stories, making predictions), and developing fluency. * Writing: Forming letters correctly (handwriting), spelling words using phonics knowledge, spelling common exception words and days of the week, writing simple sentences, and starting to sequence sentences to form short narratives. Using basic punctuation (. ? !). * Speaking & Listening: Listening and responding, asking relevant questions, participating in discussions, and speaking clearly. * Mathematics: * Progression: * Number & Place Value: Counting to and across 100, reading and writing numbers to 100 in numerals and words, identifying one more/one less, counting in 2s, 5s, and 10s. * Addition & Subtraction: Representing and using number bonds within 20, adding and subtracting one and two-digit numbers to 20, solving simple practical problems. * Multiplication & Division: Beginning to understand doubling, halving, grouping, and sharing small quantities. * Measurement: Comparing and measuring length, mass, capacity, time (days, weeks, months, years, o'clock, half past). * Geometry (Shape & Space): Recognising and naming common 2D and 3D shapes. * Science: * Progression: Observing and talking about plants, animals (including humans), everyday materials, and seasonal changes. Developing a sense of chronology. * Geography: * Progression: Naming and locating the four countries and capital cities of the UK. Identifying seasonal and daily weather patterns, and beginning to understand hot and cold areas of the world. * Art & Design: * Progression: Using a range of materials (drawing, painting, sculpture), developing techniques of colour, pattern, texture, line, shape, form, and space. Learning about different artists. * Music: * Progression: Using voices and instruments, listening to and appraising a wide range of music, and experimenting with creating sounds. * Physical Education (PE): * Progression: Developing fundamental movement skills (running, jumping, throwing, catching), participating in team games, and performing dances. * Computing: * Progression: Understanding algorithms, writing and testing simple programmes, organising and retrieving data, and learning about online safety. * Design & Technology (DT): * Progression: Designing and making purposeful products, using tools and materials, and evaluating their work.
