I have 21 years of experience in teaching both mathematics and statistics subjects from high school to undergraduate level.
I started my teaching career as a lecturer at the University of Peradeniya, Sri lanka. During this period of three years (2004-2007), I conducted six undergraduate courses. Two of them were regular introductory classes and had more than 105 students. Thereafter I got an opportunity to teach in Republic of Maldives as a secondary Mathematics teacher for six years (2007-2013). I taught IGCSE (International General Certificate of Secondary Education, Cambridge) Mathematics for four sections per semester and each class had more than twenty students. During my time as a graduate student teaching fellow at the University of North Texas (2013 - 2019), I
have gained experience teaching a range of different math courses to many different types of students.
I have been teaching for more than eight years as an assistant professor of Mathematics here at the US colleges. This includes both face to face and online teaching.
The facts I am explaining below are all from my experience and had been tested successfully in classrooms for long time.
The most important thing is to identify the background of the students. This will make you a very effective teacher as you do the best for the students by selecting appropriate examples and assessment criteria. The example that you understand may not be understood well by the other students as their context may be different. For example, if there are biological sciences students, economics related examples may not work very well for them. I experienced this fact several times.
