About Matthew
Chess is an amazing mental game to help improve decision making, especially under pressure. I love to play chess and have fun, whilst creating an environment dedicated to improvement. Through the loss and disappointment resulting from playing the game of chess, I am geared to helping you improve not only as chess players, but individuals.

- My general approach to teaching any new player the art of chess is by using, "real-life" war as a reference. Then decoding the thought process of a "general" or a "king" who is leading his/her troops into battle.
- A lesson plan will always start off with a new "chess concept" video; teaching positional analysis, ideas behind particular structures, and specific move orders. Then we head into chess puzzles for about (30) minutes, sometimes less depending on the age group. After this, a majority of the session will be taken up with actual play. To then being finalized with engine game review, and relaxing videos of tournament chess games or bullet games.
- What sets me apart is that I generally don't take myself too seriously, to the point where I jeopardize my students individual learning. If I see a student benefiting from a different style of teaching, I am more than happy to change my approach to suit their needs individually.
- These lessons are primarily for beginners, ranging from a age group of (9-15); but it can definitely be used for almost any level of chess. As long as you increase the difficulty, and refine the focus of chess "concepts-value".
