About Alastair
My name is Alastair. I'm from Jakarta, and I'm a Physics student at Oxford. I am currently doing a Masters specialising in condensed matter and biophysics. I love how diverse the subject is, and the plethora of phenomena that can be studied in this way.
Outside of Physics I am in the rowing club and the cross country club.
Teaching has always been something I've found very enjoyable, challenging, and rewarding. I started when I was in 6th form, helping a GCSE student with Chemistry, and since then I taught a friend's sibling online, and a class of year-7s when I lived in Bali last year. I hope to continue to have some element of teaching in whatever career I decide to go into.

The first session is usually a discussion of the need of the specific student or group, where there are knowledge gaps, how they learn best, and whether we are likely to be a good fit.
If knowledge gaps are large or I am teaching from scratch I will plan lessons and collate/create learning materials, whereas if I am filling smaller gaps in understanding then teaching will be more problem-based.
I can also offer help with personal statements, interview prep, and admissions tests. For the more advanced student I can offer extension lessons in special topics off-syllabus.
Most of my experience is Key Stage 3 and GCSE level maths and science, but I can offer tutoring for A level/IB maths and physics.
I have experience teaching in-person and over zoom, as well as one-to-one and in a group.
