About Laura
I have recently graduated from the University of Oxford with a degree in Classics. There, I specialised in Latin and Greek Literature, scoring firsts in all my literature modules bar one. I also wrote a thesis on the Reception of Classical Greek literature in the works of two 20th century writers, Wole Soyinka and Wilson Harris, for which I received first-class honours. At school, I was awarded the prize for best academic results in both English Literature and Latin A-Level, and throughout my University studies, I have coached students of all ages through their English Literature and Language exams (for 11+, GCSE, and A-Level). I am passionate about the study of English Language and Literature, particularly poetry, and seek to inspire students to both do well in their analysis of literature, whilst appreciating the poignancy, beauty, and literary brilliance in all the works that we look at. Having tutored in English for the last six years, I am incredibly familiar with the way that English Language and Literature is taught within the UK school system. I've coached students of all ages through their exams (11+, GCSE, and A-Level) with a particular focus on exam technique, priding myself on a strong understanding of what exactly is required to consistently achieve top marks in a humanities subject which many find daunting due to its emphasis on subjective thought. I am also able to help younger students with their syntactical and grammatical understanding of English, helping them to both develop their comprehensive and creative writing skills.
