About Susannah

I am a qualified and experienced teacher. I have a Masters and a PGCE from the University of Oxford. I have taught English and History in a range of schools. I have also worked in alternative provision schools, supporting students with autism, and anxiety.

Since 2020, I have taught nearly 1000 students online. I am a very competent and confident online teacher. I have also worked in a comprehensive school providing GCSE English and English literature revisions lessons for students.

Aside from teaching, I enjoy beach walks with my kids, creative writing and reading and talking about books. (I belong to too many book clubs!)

About the lesson

My name is Susannah and I live in England.

I have a Masters and a PGCE from the University of Oxford, and a lifelong interest in literature and language and history.

I qualified as a teacher in 2008 and have since then I have taught in a variety of different schools and settings. I am a very experienced online tutor and I'm passionate about helping students achieve their best.

I have worked in a comprehensive as an English intervention tutor - this means I am very experienced in helping students revise for their English GCSE and English Lit GCSE. I can help students identify weaknesses and work out how they can improve their answers to put their best foot forward!

I am also an experienced tutor for 6-14 year olds, helping them build on their reading, writing, comprehension or literacy skills.
I have recently taken additional training in Phonics, and in Understanding Autism, and Dyslexia. These have all added to my understanding and practice.

I am a kind teacher. I believe in asking questions and sharing stories. I love it when my students tell me interesting stories of their own! But I will always push students to achieve the best they can.

Some fun facts about me:

* I was a Women's History Network's Fellow 2019-2021 - they're supporting me to write a novel about Nancy Astor, the first woman to join the British House of Commons (she was an American actually, and she broke ALL the rules. Very cool!)

* When I was a teenager, I argued with Tony Blair (then Prime Minister) - and it was shown on the Evening News!
