About Amber

Hi! My name is Amber, and I’m currently studying Earth Sciences (MEarthSci) at the University of Oxford.

I have a genuine passion for STEM and really enjoy helping students build both their confidence and understanding in subjects they may initially find challenging. I achieved strong results throughout my GCSEs before going on to study Maths, Physics and Geology at A-Level, alongside completing an EPQ.

I offer tutoring for students aiming for top grades, including 7s, 8s and 9s at GCSE and A/A* grades at A-Level. Whether you’re looking to strengthen your understanding of the fundamentals, tackle more difficult topics, improve your exam technique, or push yourself towards the highest grades, I’m happy to tailor sessions around your individual goals and learning style.

Having gone through the process myself, I can also offer support with Oxbridge and university applications, including personal statements, interview preparation and general application advice. I’m particularly happy to help students who are considering STEM or Earth Science-related degrees and want an insight into studying these subjects at university.

Beyond tutoring, I can help with CV writing and finding academic opportunities. I’m always looking for new ways to get involved in academia, from programmes and competitions to work experience and other opportunities, and I’d love to help students do the same.

Most importantly, I aim to create a friendly and encouraging environment where you feel comfortable asking questions. I know that sometimes all it takes is having something explained in a slightly different way for it to finally click!

If you have a particular goal in mind - whether that’s getting a 9 in your GCSE, achieving an A* at A-Level, preparing an Oxford application, or simply becoming more confident in a subject - I’d be very happy to help.

About the lesson

My lessons are tailored to you - your current level, the areas you find most challenging, and the grades you want to achieve.

At the beginning, we’ll identify your strengths and the topics that need the most attention. From there, I’ll create lessons that combine clear explanations, worked examples, practice questions and exam-style problems, rather than simply going through a textbook.

For GCSE and A-Level students, I place a strong emphasis on exam technique and understanding exactly what examiners are looking for. We’ll work through past-paper questions together, break down difficult concepts step-by-step, and identify where marks are commonly lost. If you’re aiming for the highest grades, we can also tackle more challenging questions designed to push your understanding beyond the basics.

I want my lessons to be relaxed and encouraging. There’s no such thing as a silly question! I’m very happy to explain something multiple times or approach it in a completely different way until it clicks.

I feel like she immediately knows which part of the maths problem I don’t understand, and can quickly target that area of maths to improve my ability to solve difficult problems. I noticed a massive improvement in my exam scores after Amber helped me! I really recommend her to anyone looking for a good teacher. Also, when she would mark my work she would lay out clearly what the mistake was and the solutions, and if I wanted we could go through together. Maths used to be a headache for me but I found learning with Amber a smooth process overall. Recommend!!
