About Eleanor
Hi, I’m Eleanor. I’m a fully qualified teacher with a PGCE in Secondary Religious Studies from the University of Exeter, where I graduated with an Outstanding grade, alongside a 2:1 BA (Hons) in Theology. I have over a decade of experience in education, teaching, mentoring and coaching, and I’m passionate about helping students develop both academically and personally.
Throughout my career, I have taught Religious Studies, Theology, Philosophy, Ethics and History to students aged 11–18 across KS3, GCSE and A Level. I have experience teaching at outstanding schools, including Monkton Combe School and The Judd School, and I teach Religious Studies across the major UK exam boards, including AQA, Edexcel, OCR and WJEC.
My approach is structured, encouraging and personalised. I believe students learn best when they feel confident, supported and genuinely engaged with what they are studying. I take time to understand each student's individual needs and goals, then tailor my lessons accordingly. Whether a student needs to strengthen their subject knowledge, improve their essay writing, develop exam technique or simply become more confident, I provide clear guidance and constructive feedback to help them make meaningful progress.

My Approach to Tutoring
I believe the most effective tutoring is both personalised and purposeful. Every student is different, so I begin by understanding their current level, strengths, areas for development and individual goals. I then tailor each lesson to ensure that students are both challenged and supported.
My teaching combines clear explanation, discussion, questioning, guided practice and regular feedback. I aim to develop more than just subject knowledge: I help students learn how to think critically, construct strong arguments, communicate their ideas clearly and apply their knowledge effectively in examinations.
For Religious Studies, Theology, Philosophy and Ethics, I place particular emphasis on understanding different scholars and perspectives, evaluating arguments and developing well-supported conclusions. For students preparing for examinations, I also focus closely on exam technique, including essay planning, structure, use of evidence, evaluation and responding precisely to the wording of questions. Students have regular opportunities to practise and receive specific feedback so they can understand exactly how to improve.
I also believe that confidence is an important part of academic success. My aim is to create a supportive environment in which students feel comfortable asking questions, making mistakes and developing their ideas, while maintaining high expectations and encouraging them to achieve their best.
Typical Lesson Length
Lessons are typically one hour, although I can adapt the length depending on the student's age, needs and goals. For older students preparing for GCSE or A Level examinations, longer sessions can be particularly useful for essay practice, examination preparation or working through more challenging material.
My Qualifications and Experience
I am a fully qualified teacher with a PGCE in Secondary Religious Studies from the University of Exeter, where I graduated with an Outstanding grade. I also hold a 2:1 BA (Hons) in Theology from the University of Exeter and a Graydin Coach Level 2 qualification.
I have over a decade of experience in education, teaching, mentoring and coaching. I have taught Theology, Philosophy, Ethics and History to students aged 11–18 across KS3, GCSE and A Level, including at outstanding schools such as Monkton Combe School and The Judd School.
Alongside classroom teaching, I have extensive experience working with students on a one-to-one and small-group basis, as well as mentoring students and training teachers and volunteers. I teach Religious Studies across the major UK examination boards, including AQA, Edexcel, OCR and WJEC.
Who My Lessons Are For
I work with students from a range of ages and abilities, including:
KS3 students (11–14) studying Religious Studies, Religion, Ethics, History and related subjects
GCSE and IGCSE students preparing for Religious Studies examinations
A Level students studying Religious Studies, Theology, Divinity, Philosophy and Ethics
Students preparing for 11+ and school entrance examinations
Undergraduate students studying Theology and Religious Studies
Students who want to improve their grades, strengthen their essay writing, prepare for examinations or build their confidence
I particularly enjoy helping students who want to make significant academic progress, whether they are working towards a specific grade, preparing for an important examination, or simply want to develop a deeper understanding of the subject.
Ultimately, my goal is for students to leave each lesson feeling that they have understood something more deeply, developed a useful academic skill and made tangible progress towards their goals.
