About Joe
I am a friendly tutor who wishes to share my passion and love for history with my students. Having tutored privately before, and also holding experience in sports coaching, I am confident in my ability to help people learn, understand, and succeed.
I have just completed my History A-Level exams, and I am awaiting the results of them in August 2024. I achieved a Grade 9 at GCSE level, and obtained an A* predicted grade at A-Level. These grades have helped me to secure an offer from a respected Russell Group university, where I will hopefully start studying in September 2024.

History, while being an essay-based subject, is also very much centred around memory, knowledge and understanding. My sessions aim to ensure that my students have a proper understanding of the history content they are being assessed on, and also have a confidence in their ability to answer questions. I will rely on the same revision methods that I personally used to get me very successful results. My history sessions will largely consist of two main elements: 'active recall', and writing practice.
Initially my focus in on my students understanding their assessed content. This will be done through the concept of 'active recall', which involves learning and revising content from memory. This has been proven as one of the most effective ways to learn and remember information, and was one of the main techniques I used when revising for my exams.
Once my students have a good understanding of their content and a good memory of it, my focus then turns to essay writing, a key element of studying history. I want my students to be able to construct clear and convincing arguments, and this will be achieved through regular practice. I then will use mark schemes and examiner reports to help my students understand how to tailor their writing to meet the requirements of the exams they are sitting.
The exam boards I specialise in is Edexcel (1HI0) at GCSE, and OCR (H505) at A-Level, although I am flexible for other boards.
