About Issy

I'm Issy, I'm 25 and I live in South Wales with my fiance, George, and our two cats, Rupert and Greg.

I am half way through my second year as a qualified teacher, but including my training year I have nearly 3 years of experience working with secondary-school pupils as an English teacher. I pride myself in the relationships I have built with my classes over this time and there's nothing I love more than seeing students grow in confidence when they become equipped with the right know-how!

Outside of work, I am also a professional musician; I have played trumpet since I was 7 years old and it has given me a wealth of experience and great memories. Not only did it build my confidence massively (I could never have become a teacher without it!), it also created a world of opportunities such as performing to large audiences in some big venues, making amazing friends for life, and even performing LIVE on BBC One. My love for music translates into my teaching, particularly with things like poetry or Blood Brothers, and I will always find a way to link it to a lesson where I can!

About the lesson

I focus on building a supportive and friendly relationship in my lessons and my tutoring is no different; my forte is working with those achieving below target and creating a relaxed atmosphere to alleviate pressure, praise every win, and develop a deeper understanding of KS3/GCSE literature texts without feeling like your head will explode. Through carefully crafted worksheets and discussion points, I am able to tease out information and help you translate it into a thorough and coherent response.

My lessons are for KS3/4 students achieving grade 5 or below, and run for approx 45-60 mins.

I have experience with the below texts/exam boards:

- AQA English Language Paper 1 & 2
-Eduqas English Literature (poetry anthology, Blood Brothers, A Christmas Carol, An Inspector Calls, Lord of the Flies and Romeo and Juliet.
-Speaking and listening presentations
-KS3 Poetry, Noughts & Crosses (novel), Whispers in the Graveyard, The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas, Our Day Out, Of Mice and Men, non-fiction writing, creative writing, and much, much more - I can be flexible for you!

My working days are Wednesday evenings, Saturday and Sunday mornings though I can be flexible depending on my teaching load, term-time and other work commitments. Be it a one-off or a series of tutor times, I am here to assist you in any way I can!
