About Hafeez
Hi! My name is Hafeez Merali, and I'm from San Diego, California, currently studying at the University of Oxford for a BA in Philosophy, Politics and Economics while also working on completing my certification in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL). My tutoring specialties are Spanish, Chinese, Math and English.
I first started tutoring in 2020 after seeing how students were struggling during the pandemic. Since then, I've worked for my local primary school district to teach remedial classes for primary-aged children, continued to teach privately, and even volunteered in rural Thailand to teach English in under-resourced areas. It's always inspiring to me seeing students finally understand something that they've been struggling with. I do my best to keep my lessons fun, relevant and motivating so that our sessions are something to look forward to! Hope to see you soon!

Hi!
I offer Chinese language lessons online for Mandarin Chinese language learners of all ages and levels. I've been studying Chinese since I was 10 years old and continue to try and improve here at the University of Oxford. In between, I have competed in China, scored the maximum possible on the AP Mandarin Chinese test, and have helped students struggling with their Chinese classes over the pandemic. I'd love to work with you too!
For everyone except absolute beginners, I like to do immersion-style lessons where I communicate predominantly in Chinese, not English. This can seem daunting but it helps students learn quickly and effectively!
Lessons can be half an hour or an hour depending on student preference. I offer a free 30 minute consultation meeting so you can decide if we're a good fit!
