About Ellie
I am finishing my sophomore year at California State University, Northridge, planning to attend Arizona State University in the fall. I have always been passionate about teaching and helping other students.
I have been working at an afterschool club here in Northridge for several months, where it is normal to sit down with students Kindergarten - 5th grade and assist any homework. Along with this I was a supplemental instructor for Math 106, which I finished that class myself with a 97%. Algebra, geometry and trigonometry was the focus of that course. A supplemental instructor is one who takes the college students from the regular lecture, and go over the day's topics with them and allow for any questions as well as exam prep.
During my junior and senior year in High School, I was completing college classes at my local community college where I got more experience in those higher level math courses.
My current career path is psychology, looking more at young adult domestic violence cases. However I have more recently been drawn toward the education pathway. I believe an opportunity with these students will provide me with more experience and passion for this as a further career.

I try to keep my tutoring style relaxed, supportive, and easy to follow. My main goal is to help students actually understand what they’re doing—not just memorize steps. I’m very patient and always encourage questions, because I know math can feel frustrating sometimes, and I want students to feel comfortable and not judged.
A typical lesson usually starts with going over any homework or topics the student is struggling with. Then we break things down together, work through examples step by step, and practice similar problems until it starts to click. As they get more confident, I let them try on their own while I guide them when needed. I like to end with a quick recap so they leave feeling more confident than when they started.
What makes me different is that I focus a lot on building confidence, not just getting the right answers. I’m good at explaining things in a way that actually makes sense, especially if a student has been confused before. I also try to keep things positive and encouraging so students don’t feel overwhelmed.
Along with this my goal is to create a safe and welcoming environment, I never want to make my students feel put down and shamed for something they simply do not know. I plan to take my time with each student including an additional 5 minutes at the start of our lesson, free of charge, for them to talk about their week and allow for a professional relationship to become.
My tutoring is for students from elementary through high school. Whether someone needs help catching up, staying on track, or just wants extra support in math, I’m here to help. I especially enjoy working with students who feel stuck or unsure, and helping them realize they’re more capable than they think.

Ellie has been a fantastic tutor for my 9th-grade son in pre-calculus. She’s patient, explains things thoroughly, and genuinely enjoys teaching math. My son looks forward to his sessions and is finally starting to enjoy math again. I would definitely recommend Ellie!
She was a student of mine in a college level course and absolutely blew me away. She had some of the best learning mindsets and was able to reiterate and help other students in the class. I would definitely trust her with all levels of grade school for math!

I offer an additional 5 minutes free, on top of when scheduled to take the time and form a professional relationship with each student. My goal in these 5 minutes is allow them to tell me about their days, how they are feeling, and just have normal conversation.
This 5 minute window will be added to the forefront of our meeting, with the option to join 5 minutes early or stay those 5 minutes later past our scheduled time.
