About Jonathan
Hi there! I'm Jonathan, and I'm passionate about helping students discover their potential through language and literature. Whether you're mastering English as a second language, preparing for college, or diving deep into dramatic works, I bring empathy and respect to every lesson. What drives me most is that incredible moment when a student realizes they can do something they couldn't do before. Beyond teaching, I've spent over a decade in marketing and advertising, which has given me unique insights into clear communication and audience awareness - skills I love sharing with my students. I hold a Bachelor's degree from NYU in Secondary English Education with minors in Spanish and Linguistics. My teaching journey spans 15+ years across diverse settings and age groups: • ESL classroom instructor for adults in Brooklyn (2008-2009) • College prep composition for at-risk teens in NYC (2008-2009) • Summer English program for high school students in Kwangju, South Korea (2007) • One-on-one conversational English tutoring in Madrid, Spain (2006) • Student teaching and classroom assistance through NYU coursework (2004-2008) From 2009-2020, I designed and delivered training programs for marketing and advertising agencies, creating PowerPoint presentations, courses, and follow-up assessments to ensure knowledge retention.

My approach is rooted in progressive pedagogy from my NYU training, which emphasizes active learning, student-teacher interaction, and understanding each student's complete experience. I put empathy at the center of my practice and consider the whole person - not just their academic needs.
I work best with older students who are ready to engage with ideas, not just memorize facts. I have particular success with students who may have struggled in traditional classroom settings because I believe in meeting then where they are and building from their strengths. I approach every student as someone with valuable perspectives and untapped potential. This respectful, collaborative approach consistently yields results.
